Chanel's First Unisex Sports Watch

Although the J12 timepiece possesses strong sporty DNA, my impression has always been that Chanel never explicitly marketed the J12 as a "sports watch"—until now. With this release, Chanel has finally clarified its stance: the J12 is the brand's first unisex sports watch. Luxury replica watches cheap, luxury brands watches like Omega, Audemars Piguet, Breitling, Hublot or TAG Heuer replica watches.

Today, the Chanel J12 family is extensive, with the black high-tech ceramic model standing as the quintessential classic within the collection. Indeed, the very first J12 watch introduced by Chanel in 2000 was black. The specific J12 model before us features a case and bracelet crafted entirely from black high-tech ceramic, while the bezel, crown, and dial details are accented with 18K yellow gold. With a diameter of 38mm, the case size is universally appealing to both men and women. Its water resistance of 200 meters meets professional diver's watch standards; thus, for daily wear, there is absolutely no need to worry about the "threat" of incidental water exposure—and, of course, one can certainly engage in water sports just as depicted in the brand's advertising campaigns.

By now, most are likely well-acquainted with Chanel's high-tech ceramic; since the debut of the first J12 in 2000, this material has become the signature element of the J12 series and, indeed, of Chanel watchmaking as a whole. Although ceramic watches existed within the horological landscape prior to the J12, it is fair to say that it was not until the arrival of the J12 that ceramic truly established itself as a legitimate material in fine watchmaking, thereby garnering widespread attention for ceramic timepieces.

The incorporation of 18K yellow gold into this timepiece introduces not only a new material but also a new color palette. This model (along with a companion version in white high-tech ceramic) marks the first instance within the J12 series—specifically regarding models equipped with an in-house movement—to feature yellow gold. Black and gold have long been the signature colors of the Chanel brand; the profound depth of black, paired with the noble luster of gold, highlights a design aesthetic that harmoniously blends strength with softness—a combination that is particularly striking.

The yellow gold is not applied in broad swaths, but rather serves to frame the watch with a delicate golden border. As is evident, the fluted edges and graduated markings of the rotating bezel are accented in 18K yellow gold, while the remainder of the bezel is rendered in black high-tech ceramic. The 18K yellow gold crown is set with a cabochon crafted from durable, scratch-resistant black ceramic. On the black lacquered dial, the hands, hour markers, date numerals, circular minute track, and logo are all gold-plated. Chanel has masterfully paired gold accents with the black background.

The Caliber 12.1 movement is COSC-certified (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute); its average daily rate is strictly controlled within a range of +6 to -4 seconds, thereby professionally guaranteeing the timepiece's timekeeping precision. The self-winding Caliber 12.1 movement features displays for hours, minutes, seconds, and the date, and is equipped with a stop-seconds mechanism, an instantaneous date jump, and a variable-inertia balance wheel with weights for fine adjustment. When fully wound, it offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. In terms of decoration, the oscillating weight and bridges feature a brushed finish, complemented by various frosted textures and circular graining.
